Palikuwa na mama mmoja ambaye hali yake ilikuwa ya chini sana kiuchumi, lakini alijitahidi kumsomesha binti yake hadi sekondari. Mwalimu mmoja hapo shuleni ambaye pia alikuwa kiongozi wa dhehebu fulani, alikuwa anamumezea mate kimoyo moyo binti yule lakini hakumtamkia bayana.

Mwalimu alianzisha mtindo wa kumuita binti ofisini kwake, baada ya ratiba za masomo na kumpa pesa nyingi bila kumwambia chochote. Binti akiuliza ni za nini, mwalimu humjibu, “we chukua tu, zitakusaidia kwenye matumizi yako.” Waliendelea tabia ya kupeana na kupokea pesa kwa muda mrefu hadi yule binti akawa na hela nyingi sana.

Siku moja mama yake, kama kawaida ya wamama wengi, alikuwa anakagua kitanda cha binti yake. Alipogeuza godoro, alikutana na wekundu wa msimbazi wa kutosha, mama alichanganyikiwa, alijiuliza maswali mengi bila kupata majibu. Alishangaa na kuduwaa bila kujua ni wapi binti amepata hela zote hizo. Aliwaza kimoyo moyo jinsi anavyohangaika kutafuta ada ya kumsomesha pamoja na chakula cha hapo nyumbani. Alijiuliza, binti yake anawezaje kuhifadhi hela zote hizi bila kumwambia yeye mamake? Aliamua kumsubiri arudi kutoka shule ili kiweze kueleweka.

Mara baada ya binti kufika tu nyumbani, mama alimvaa kwa kumuweka kiti moto. Binti aliungama wazi kwa kusema kuwa anayempa fedha ni mwalimu wake, ambaye hata mama yake pia anamfahamu. Aliongeza kwa kusema kuwa, huyo mwalimu ni kiongozi wa dhehebu fulani. Mama kwa jazba alimuuliza, “je na wewe umempa nini hadi akupe hela zote hizo?” Binti akasema hajampa chochote.

Ni kweli mama alikuwa na matatizo mengi ya kifedha. Hakuwa na ada pamoja na mahitaji mengine ya hapo nyumbani. Kutokana na ukata huo, ilibidi mama akubali matokeo. Waliungana na binti katika kufanya uharamia huo. Mama alienda mbali zaidi kwa kumpa ushauri binti yake. Alimwambia kuwa kama itamlazimu kulala naye basi ni lazima atumie kinga ya kuzuia mimba, vinginevyo atashindwa kumaliza shule endapo atapata ujauzito.

Mama alimhalalishia binti yake uvunjaji wa Amri ya Sita ya Mungu. Binti alimkubalia mama yake kwa moyo uliojaa furaha tele. Kwa hakika binti alijiona kuwa ana bahati sana ya kuwa na mama mwenye maono ya mbali kama yale.

Hivyo mama na mtoto walitengeneza bajeti kwa fedha zile zilizokuwa chini ya godoro. Waliainisha fedha kwa ajili ya matumizi mbalimbali, ikiwa ni pamoja na ada ya binti, ada za wadogo zake na matumizi mengine ya nyumbani na ya biashara pia.

Tangu siku ile binti akawa huru kwenda kuchukua hela kwa mwalimu na akipewa anamletea mama yake. Tabia ya kuchota fedha kwenye kisima hicho iliota mizizi. Hatimaye mwalimu na binti, bila woga wowote wakaanza kukutania kwenye nyumba ya wageni ili kutimiza yale yaliyokuwa yamedhamiriwa tokea siku nyingi na mwalimu mwenye ibilisi ndani ya moyo wake. Haikuwa tabu kwa mwalimu kutekeleza azma yake ya muda mrefu, kwani ndoano yake alikuwa amemtegea vema binti na hivyo alimnasa kiurahisi sana. Binti alikumbuka wosia wa mama yake wa kutumia kinga ya kuzuia mimba. Mchezo uliendelea kunoga kila uchao na bila hofu yoyote.

Kisa hiki kinatufundisha nini?

  1. Mama alikengeuka kwenye malezi ya binti yake. Badala ya kumlea binti yake vile inavyotakiwa, alitanguliza ukosefu wa mahitaji yake muhimu kwa kuhalalisha uovu ufanyike.
  2. Yatupasa kuridhika na hali zetu ili tuweze kutenda yale yanayompendeza Mungu. Tusiendekeze tamaa za miili yetu kwani kwa kufanya hivyo tutajikuta tunatenda yale yasiyotakiwa.
  3. Walimu wasio na utu na nidhamu ni chanzo cha watoto wengi kuingia kwenye mitego na kuharibu maisha yao. Walimu wana jukumu la kuwalea watoto na siyo kuwakwaza kama ilivyokuwa kwenye kisa hiki. Ualimu ni kazi ya heshima, kazi ya malezi na si vinginevyo. Utatu uliofanyika kwenye kisa hiki, yaani Mtoto, Mwalimu na Mzazi ni utatu mchafu wa kukemewa na jamii. Watoto wasirubuniwe na wenye mamlaka bali inabidi walindwe ili wapate haki zao za msingi za malezi bora. Hali zetu duni haziwezi kuboreshwa kwa kuhalalisha uovu ufanywe na watu kwa watoto wetu.
  4. Majukumu ya kulea watoto ni ya jamii nzima. Inatakiwa kila mtu aone kuwa mtoto wa mwenzie ni wake na hivyo amtendee vile inavyotakiwa, vile ambavyo angependa mtoto wake atendewe na inavyotegemewa na jamii. Ni unyama uliokithiri na sio utu hata kidogo kuwategea mitego watoto wa wenzetu ili waweze kurubuniwa kiurahisi.

The Healing Hands Project

The Healing Hands project will economically empower people to achieve financial autonomy by building entrepreneurial skills and embedding skills transfer within the community – eliminating poverty as a driver of ill mental health. Funds raised from the jewelry will help sustain the implementation of accessible psychosocial interventions in underserved communities and promote the economic empowerment of the grandmothers who have been trained in and are implementing WHO’s mental health Gap Action Program. Healing Hands provides interpersonal counseling, group talk therapy, and psychoeducation resources delivered through arts, where clients learn to handcraft traditional beaded jewelry as a marketable skill.
